THE
CHURCH
ON
WINDMILL ROAD
There once
was a church down in Arkansas
Where the
sermons were the best, I'm told
Near a
bubblin' brook, it was known by all
As the
church down 'Windmill Road.'
The congregation met
ever' Wednesday night
On Sundays they met
twice a day
Those windmill blades
kept'a turnin' alright
And so were those
sermons, they say.
Now if you'd never
been down Windmill Road
It was easy for
a stranger gettin' lost
But if you heard
the singin' you were mighty close
- Just to walk a
little further didn't cost.
That's just what happened
one hot summer day
To a stranger, just
passing thru' town
'Twas a poor soul
walkin', couldn't find his way
Until the Windmill Road
he found.
He heard the singin'
as he stopped to rest
And the sound to
his ears, it was sweet
Tho' he knew he
was ragged, didn't look his best
He was tired and
a'hurtin' in his feet.
So he walked a
little further and he found the church
And he opened up
it's squeaky front door
For a pew that
was empty he began to search
He was lost, he
was tired, and he was poor.
He heard the Preacher
talkin' 'bout a lonely Hill
That someone named Jesus
did climb
The Preacher said "Friends,
Christ Paid the Bill ! "
Said "Jesus had us
all in mind."
He said "Jesus don't
care what you've been or done,
'Coz HE died for
sinners, you see...
Just one way to
Heaven and there's only One
Trust in Christ and
you can be set Free."
As the congregation stood
for the Hymn to start
There was a 'battle'
right then going on
Yes right there inside
of that stranger's heart
And just at that
moment, weighed a ton.
The stranger knelt down
right there and he knew
He was lost and
he wanted to Repent
The Preacher walked
over, said "Jesus loves you,
And to die for
your sins - HE was sent."
That man got Saved
down the Windmill Road
Now he lives in
the house across the street
Oh many times over
he would say, I'm told
'I'm so glad that
day I rested my feet.'
If you ever get
lost out taking a walk
Down Windmill Road,
they say
You can still hear
the singing (so goes the talk)
Yes you might just
hear it one day.
