THE
CATERPILLAR IN THE SKY
My
little brother and I love to play together in
our
back yard. We have a big back yard with
a
pretty, white fence around it. Almost every
day
after lunch, we head straight for the
back
yard so we can play for a while before
nap
time.
'Markie'
is my little brother's name and he's
five
years old. My name is Susie and I am six
years
old. We like to play in our sandbox
that
daddy built for us. Sometimes we play
Tag,
and I always let Markie win because
he
can't run as fast as I can.
One
day while we were playing in our sandbox,
I
looked up at the sky and noticed that there
were
lots and lots of big fluffy clouds floating
around.
As
I was staring up at all of the pretty clouds,
I
noticed that there were many different shapes
and
sizes of clouds. There was one cloud in
particular
that looked just like a caterpillar !
"Markie,
look ! See that cloud right over there ?
Doesn't
it look just like a caterpillar ?"
Markie
stopped digging in the sand with his
little
red shovel and looked up at the sky. I
could
tell that he was trying hard to find the
'caterpillar'
cloud that I had pointed to.
"Susie,
I can't find it. Point at it again for
me,
please !' So I pointed at it again for
Markie
and finally he saw it too. "Oh yes ! I
see
it now ! Then he stood up in the sandbox
so
he could get a better look at it.
It
does, Susie ! It looks just like a long, furry
caterpillar
!"
Then
Markie asked me "Susie, who makes all
the
clouds up in the sky?" Well, I knew the
answer
to that because I had learned all about
it
in Sunday School. So I answered "Markie,
God
made all the clouds that are up in the sky."
Markie
didn't say anything for a minute or two
and
then in a very excited voice, he yelled
"Susie,
look ! Look over there at that cloud !"
"Can
you see it ? It looks just like a big
watermelon
!"
Well
I looked and looked but I couldn't find his
big
watermelon. I said "Markie, point at it
again
so I can find it too." Then he pointed
at
it again and then I saw it too !
After
that, we began to see all kinds of shapes
in
the clouds. We found one cloud that was
shaped
like a big balloon. We even saw a cloud
that
looked just like a snowman ! Markie
said
he thought that some of the clouds looked
like
a whole bunch of bubbles.
Mama
called out for us to come on inside.
It
was time for us to take our naps. We
picked
up our toys and put them back into
our
sandbox. Suddenly, Markie stopped and
stood
very still and looked up at the sky with
a
big smile on his face and said,
"Thank
you God for making all of those
pretty
clouds for us !"
