They
raced a'cross the Bayou
Thru'
a Louisiana town
'Buick
Special' got the jump
But
the Chevy gainin' ground.
A
streak of blue was seen
As
it passed that Chevy black
Big-Block
was runnin' lean
And
he wasn't lookin' back.
The
Chevy Stroked and Bored
'Heads'
Ported and Relieved
As
it's Pipes let out a roar
That
'55 was gainin' speed.
Metal
clanking side-by-side
When
the Chevy pulled ahead,
The
driver of the 'Special'
Hit
a cloud of burnin' lead.
That
Buick lost the race
As
the Chevy jumped the hill,
When
the winner waved goodbye-
He
saw the Cadillac Deville.
The
driver revved his engine
And
he dared that '55
So
Chevy took the challenge
(
Sure to make that Caddy cry ! )
Red
Deville, it weighed a ton
Dead
start was sure to lose
As
the Chevy started rollin'
That's
when Caddy showed her 'shoes' .
Still
runnin', engine screamin'
Came
aroun' the second bend
But
he saw the flashin' lights
As
he reached a hundred-ten.
Then
a siren came a chasin'
Thru'
a night black as coal
The
Cruiser missed the turn
And
that Old Smokie took a roll.
As
they raced t'ward the Levy
Neither
one was looking back,
And
that '55 was screamin'
As
it passed that Cadillac.
When
the Chevy passed Deville
Heard
that Caddy Engine cry,
It
was pushin' hundred-twenty
As
the Chevy waved goodbye.
That
ole '55 was gloatin'
Near
the bayou slowed her gait,
Gettin'
ready for a challenge
From
a 'Mean - Green - Z-28 ' !
