SINGING MY WAY BACK HOME
I sang my way to Texas
'Board a fast and noisy train
Then on to Oklahoma
Where I sang out in the rain
The bus-stop, it was crowded
Tho' my wait there wasn't long
The crowd they stood and listened
As I sang another song
I'm homeward bound for Kansas
And my voice my passage pays
I've traveled many weeks
- For many nights and many days
My hat when filled with money
Brings me closer to my home
I've many songs to sing yet
My guitar and I alone
I've walked the dusty roads
'Long many highways yes it's true
Still lonely paths ahead
'Neath skies of black and grey and blue
My folks they haven't seen me
In so many years I know
And I'm sure my mother cried
The day I left so long ago
I sing the gospel songs
That tell of Jesus, love and joy
I sing the songs my daddy sang
When he was just a boy
I strayed from what I knew
To be a good and righteous life
To live for worldly pleasures,
'Mid it's many sins and strife
So many wasted years
But now I'm headed home you see
My heart's been reconciled
Between my Saviour - Christ and me.
My folks I'll never leave again
No tears to them I'll bring
Until I see my mother's face
I'll sing, and sing, and sing.
