SALLIE   ANN
 

"In Jesus's Name I Pray, Amen"  she said
 
 
 

I  will  never  forget  the  day
When  my  life  truly  began
Because  of  a  special  child
Who  we  called  "Sallie  Ann". 
 

In  a  hospital  room  she  lay
All  alone,  but  a  teddy  bear
Held  tight  upon  a  pillow
By  a  child  with  golden  hair.
 

I  had  volunteered  to  work
The  Children's  Ward  that  day
So  with  story  book  in  hand
God  sent  me  Sallie's  way.
 

Just  out  of  Nursing  School
My  training  then  complete,
Not  knowing  of  the  child
And  special  Friend  I'd  meet.
 

As  I  peeked  into  her  room
Saw  a  brown  teddy  bear
Now  held  within  the  arms
Of  a  child  deep  in  prayer.
 

So  I  quietly  tip-toed  in
And  sat  next  to  her  bed
It  was  then  I  heard  "Amen,
In  Jesus's  Name"  she  said.
 

I  said,  " I've  come  to  read
And  to  visit  for  a  spell "
Sallie  Ann  looked  up  at  me
Said  " I've  a  story  I  must  tell. "
 

"  You  see,  there  was  an  accident
A  car  wreck  that  we  had
It  took  them  both  away -
My  mommy  and  my  dad. "
 

" Oh,  but  it's  okay  because
I  have  a  special  Friend
He's  with  me  all  the  time
And  He'll  be  here  'til  the  end. "
 

" I  heard  the  Doctors  say......
They  think  that  I  don't  know
Where  I  got  hurt  won't  heal
But  my  heart  just  won't  let  go."
 

" My  Friend  said  I  must  wait,
There  is  something  I  must  do
I  must  help  someone  who's  sad

So  I've  been  waiting  here  for  you. "
 

" Miss  Nurse,  if  you  don't  mind,
Before  you  have  to  go
I'd  like  to  ask  you  somethin'
'Coz  I'd  really  like  to  know. "
 

" Have  you  ever  met  my  Friend ?
You  look  so  sad  somehow
Oh,  please  stay  Miss  Nurse.....
I  can  tell  you  'bout  Him  now. "
 

" On  the  day  of  the  accident
My  Friend  was  there  with  me
HE  helps  me  not  get  scared
And  He  keeps  me  company. "
 

My  tears  began  to  flow
And  before  the  day  had  passed
 My  heart  was  Reconciled
For  I  met  her  'Friend'  at  last !
 

His  Name  is  Jesus  Christ
And  He  made  my  heart  brand  new
Sallie  Ann  shared  with  me
How  He  died  for  me  and  you.
 

Now  the  years  have  passed  away
And  Sallie  is  with  her  Friend
But  not  a  day  goes  by
That  I  forget  a  kiss  to  send.
 

That  special  child  who  told
A  lost  and  sad  old  nurse
The  way  to  finding  Christ
- Even  read  me  a  Bible  verse.
 

On  the  day  she  left  this  earth
Sallie  Ann - she  never  cried
And  she  whispered  in  my  ear
" I  see  angels  by  my  side ! "
 

When  Jesus  took  her  home
I  was  holding  tight  her  hand
And   I  whispered  back  to  her
" I  love  you  Sallie  Ann. "
 

As  I  watched  her  close  her  eyes
I  had  no  doubt  just  then
That  Jesus  took  her  Home
And   one  day  I'd  see   Sallie  Ann  again.
