My
Grandson Berke
I have a little grandson,
'Berke Jeffrey' is his name
And since he came into this world
My life's not been the same.
For when I see his precious smile
And gaze into his face
It isn't any wonder that
In my heart he's found a place.
The way he toddles 'cross the room
The way he hugs my neck
The way he looks at 'Granny' and
He gives my cheek a peck.
It's true to say he never fails
To brighten up each day
I love to watch him run and jump
- Such joy to watch him play.
Since he was born, there is a song
To him I often sing
Just a little song that I made up,
As I hope a smile to bring...........

(The song below that I sing to Berke. For some reason, as little
as
he is, this song always makes him smile. He just sits quietly
on my lap while I sing it to him, haha. Aren't little ones
sweet!)
"One
day a little boy walked down the road
He was goin' to the candy store
With nothin' in his pocket but a nickel
and a dime
Yes to buy him some candy, some more
!"
"Down that old dirt road he walked and
he walked
With nothin' but a nickel and a
dime
When he got to the store he said "Now
Sir,
Could I ask ya, if ya got the time?"
"See, I got me a nickel and I got me a
dime,
Can ya tell me where the candy might
be?
'Coz I walked down a long and dusty road
And I'm tired and I'm hungry, you
see."
"Well the store man smiled and said "Follow
me,
Little boy, just step this way.....
We got lots of 'penny candy' at the candy
store
You can buy you some candy today."
"Berke's eyes lit up and his face
was bright
As he walked to the candy aisle
He was gonna buy some candy with a nickel
and a dime
He was smiling his great big smile!"
"As he walked back home down the dusty
road
He was singing of his favorite
song
"Precious Lord, take my hand.....Precious
Lord, lead me on"
And his candy wouldn't last very long."
*smile*
Just a silly song I know to you, must
be,
But to me, as I softly sing
It's a special little song to my precious
Berke
Oh the tears that a song can bring.......
Many times as I've rocked and sang to
him
Yes I knew he was special
from the start
When he tugs at my skirt, looks up at
me
Oh the love that fills my heart.
Berke Jeffrey will you ever really know
how much
That your Granny sure loves you so?
Thru' every smile, thru' every tear
Yes I have watched you grow.
One day if you walk to a candy store
And you take 'long a nickel and a dime
I wonder, will you 'member that little
song?
Yes, the song that was yours and mine.
