JUST ABOUT
EIGHTEEN
INCHES
Just another
lonely sinner
Tho' he heard
Christ Paid the Cost
Never doubted
that our Saviour
Had once hung
upon the cross.....
He believed that
Jesus suffered
When He died
for you and me
No the man
had never questioned
There had been
a Calvary......
And it's true
he never doubted
That God sent
His Only Son
He had never
on occasion
Doubted Jesus
was the One.....
Now a man
with many talents,
A good husband
and a dad
Had a wife
he loved and treasured
Truly loved
those things he had.......
Generous, with
good intentions
He was honest......he
was good
Didn't steal
and didn't lie
Tried to do
just what he should........
But it happened
that an illness
Fell upon him
one sad day
Thinking 'bout
his life on earth
In the hospital
now he lay.......
On the second
floor he rested
For his strength
was none at all
When one day
came a Preacher
Who was sent
to pay a call.........
He walked into
his room
And with a
smile he said " Hello,
Can we talk
for just a while ?
He answered
yes instead of no.
" Just came by
to pay a visit
When I heard
that you were ill
Let me introduce
myself to you
My name is
Brother Bill....."
In his hand
he held a Bible
He said " Friend,
if you don't mind
I'd like to
ask you something.....
Is it Heaven
you will find ?"
"Do you know
about your Saviour ?
Have you ever
Trusted Him ?
Did you know
that Jesus died
To Save the
sinners from their sin ?"
As the Preacher
talked of Jesus
Reading Scriptures
from God's Word
The man, he
lay there thinking
Some of this,
he'd already heard.
In his head
he knew of Jesus
Never doubted
it was true
That God had
sent His Only Son
Who had died
for me and you....
The man answered
"Yes, I know,
I believe
that Jesus died
I've never had
reason to doubt
That Christ
was crucified......."
" Yes I've heard
about our Saviour
And I do
believe it's true
So if you're
asking me the question
Do I believe
in God ? I do."
As the Preacher
listened quietly
To the man
and all he said
He could see
he had a knowledge
All stored up
inside his head....
But the Preacher,
he could see
The man had
left out an important Part
And that Preacher
knew the distance
From the head
now to the heart.....
It's just about eighteen inches
From the head
to Saving Grace
It's just about
eighteen inches
Yes from hell
to Heaven's Gate......
It's
just about eighteen inches
From the head
now to the heart
It's just about
eighteen inches
Keeping life
and death apart..........
For
there must be Repentance
In your heart,
to set you Free,
Put all your
Trust in Jesus
Make it PERSONAL,
you see........
It's
just about eighteen inches
That's the distance
you must go
And when you
call on Jesus
For Salvation
you will know...........
That
it's just about eighteen inches
Not too far,
yet miles away
Your head may
have the knowledge
But has it
reached your heart today ?
Then the Preacher
asked him,
"Friend, you
left out an important part ;
I listened to
all that you said,
But has it
ever reached your heart ?"
"By FAITH, if
you Trust in Jesus
And REPENT,
He will Forgive
You see, it
must be Personal
In your heart
for you to Live......"
"For satan, he
knows and trembles
So you see,
that's not enough
That 'knowledge'
in your head
Doesn't mean
you know Christ's Love......"
" For when you
call on Jesus
You must realize
you're Lost
Repent of all
your sins
Knowing Christ
has Paid the Cost....".
" Yes Jesus is
our Saviour
But to know
Him Personally
Is when you
call on Jesus
Believing HE
will set YOU Free. "
The man had
tears running down his face,
For he realized
that day
He had never
known Christ PERSONALLY
Tho' his head
had heard men say........
He began to
pray,
Right there
in his hospital bed
He realized
that 'knowledge' in his head
Had never before
reached his heart.
He called on
Christ to Save him
He REPENTED
of his sin
He TRUSTED in
his Saviour
For by FAITH
does life begin.
That man
died just two days later
But with Jesus
he shall never part
Yes, it's just
about eighteen inches
From the head
now to the heart.

Luke 13 : 3
I tell you, Nay: but,
except ye repent, ye shall all
likewise perish.
EPHESIANS 2: 8 & 9
For by grace are ye saved
through faith; and that
not of yourselves: it
is the gift of God: not of
works, lest any man should
boast.
Galatians 3:11
But that no man is justified
by the law in the
sight of God, it is
evident: for, The just shall live
by faith.
