HOME
I left my home in
'52
To travel so far an'
wide
Twenty years passed, found
me home at last
But mama had already
died.
Where did all the years
go to ?
I thought I was 'on
my way'
' I'll be home soon,
watch for me at noon '
I promised to my folks
ever' day.
The time went by, me
without a clue
Tho' so many times
I wished
To be back home 'coz
I'd always known
It was what I had
dearly missed.
The homefront, well, there's
been a change
But yonder stands the
old windmill
Oh an' I can
see our big apple tree
Standing near the work
shed, still.
Just over there hung
a wooden swing
Yes memories of my
growing-up years
When mama would sing
at the kitchen sink
- A hand reaches up
to wipe the tears.
The old wood stove,
it don't work no more
The hardwood floors now
bare
Ahh sweet smelling stacks
of them applejacks
When mama, she would
stand right there.
Papa chopped wood an'
piled it high
To warm us in the
winter time
Our feet were bare
but the Lord took care
- Never missed that extra
nickel an' dime.
There used to be an
ole' swimming hole
Where us farmers' kids
would swim
Me an' Donny-Ray, we
could swim all day
With Bobby-Joe, Dale an'
Jim.
I had me a little
brown puppy once
But he got too lonesome....I'm
to blame
He took off to roam
the day that I left home,
- I wish that I remembered
his name.
My folks went to church
'ever faithfully
Tho' Papa tried hard,
I wouldn't go
I sowed my seeds, did
some wicked deeds
An' Papa now I wish
you could know....
That one day I found
my Saviour's Love
To you that might
be a surprise
I know ever' day you
an' mama prayed
' Dear Lord please let
our son survive. '
Now it won't be long
'til I'll be coming Home
So to the old homefront....it's
goodbye
The Doctors say it
could happen any day..........
Yes I'm really going
HOME this time.
